TEHRAN – A university professor was killed and another one wounded in two separate car explosions in Tehran on Monday morning.

Both academics, identified as Majid Shahriari and Fereydoun Abbasi Davani, have been specialists in physics and the faculty members of Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran.

Police say terrorists in both attacks were motorcyclists and attached magnetic bombs to the bodyworks of the physicists’ cars. The two academics were on the way to Shahid Beheshti University in north Tehran when they came under attacks.

In the first explosion, Majid Shahriari was killed and two persons including his wife who were accompanying him were wounded.

The second explosion which occurred in the vicinity of Shahid Beheshti University injured Professor Fereydoun Abbasi Davani and his wife. They were immediately transferred to hospital and reportedly are now in good condition.

No group has yet claimed responsibility of the terrorist attacks, Tehran police chief Hossein Sajedinia told reporters.

Police and security officials have launched thorough investigations into these incidents, he added.
